Here’s my little take on moving out for the first time.
It’s not as easy as pouring tea. Packing your bags, loading the truck, picking out your furniture and expecting everything to run smoothly is far from the truth!
In fact, it was one of the most eye opening experiences in my entire life!
Furniture: It’s the mere fact that you cannot walk into a store, pick a couch and buy it! No Sir! You have to wait a minimum of 4–6 weeks for delivery of that particular couch. I couldn’t even buy the couch on display, trust me when I say I begged and pleaded with the sales agent and NOTHING worked!
Unpacking: That takes 2 weeks. In that period, you will feel the need to unpack and repack the kitchen cupboards at least 4 times a week. For some reason the kitchen needs to be the most perfectly packed room in our house! Sifting old and new clothes will take place at the new house as well as anything that’s going to charities or friends.
Cleaning: Do not even bother cleaning. Trust me it will only hurt your emotions! After everything has assigned itself to a temporary place you begin to clean, do a butt load of washing, tumble dry and repeat the process again. Yes, your cleaning itch will kill you but unfortunately something or someone will find a way to ruin your joy by delivering your new couch or replacing your bed.
Have fun: Play crazy loud music! Go mad, dance with the mop, sing to old school music, make some French toast with whipped cream and endless chocolate sauce! Take photos and post them everywhere! Share the moments with your friends and family! Meet the neighbour next door, apologise for any noise made the night before, exchange parking’s with them and sign up with any activities available in the complex!
After you have gone through the move, sit back, relax and enjoy your new masterpiece! Laugh at the fights and stressful times! Rejoice because your first step into adulthood just smacked you in the head!
